MEET TIM WILKINSON

Years of Public Service

Hello, I'm Tim Wilkinson and I'm running for GA House District 73. I am married and a father of five with nine wonderful grandchildren. My wife Sheila and I have called Georgia home for almost 29 years. I retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 33 years, where I often served as a Union Representative for the National Association of Letter Carriers.

I currently work two part-time blue-collar jobs to help make ends meet. I am not an attorney, realtor, or rich businessman. In fact, like most Georgians, my only property ownership is a primary residence, our home. I work and live, paycheck to paycheck, just like millions of my fellow Americans.

I have no financial interest in any businesses. My only interest is in serving the citizens of District 73, and the great state of Georgia. I hope to secure our community's safety and prosperity, and to ensure our continued success with dignity and respect for all, and the dream of a better future.

I am running for this office to help restore civility, dignity, and honesty to our political system. I will attempt to effect positive progressive change and move Georgia forward into a prosperous new century. As a legislator, I intend to scour the country for any legislation that improves the lives of Georgians, being proactive instead of reactive.

Priority Issues

  • High Cost of Living - To maintain our quality of life in these inflationary times, I will attempt to eliminate local taxes on groceries, temporarily suspend the gasoline sales tax, cap interest rates on credit cards, increase the minimum wage, keep property taxes at a minimum, and end the state income tax.

  • Improving Our Infrastructure - We must invest in vastly improving our roads to ensure safety and reduce traffic. Numerous roadways in Coweta County need widening immediately, including state HWY 16 and state HWY 154. In Fayette County the Highway 74/54 intersection needs to be alleviated by providing alternate East/West routes. This must be done while preserving Peachtree City as the gem of city planning, as it has been, and shall remain. With the combined efforts of both counties working together, and with local municipalities, I believe this will be achieved.

  • Holding Data Centers Accountable - We must limit or prohibit data centers by ensuring that they, and not our citizens, pay for the increases to our water and energy costs. This includes paying their share of the reported 20 billion dollars that GA Power intends to spend to maintain a secure supply of energy into the future.

  • Promoting Public Education - We must continue to invest in our future by strongly supporting our teachers and a high quality public education system. Our future rests in their hands. We must ensure that professional educators, and not politicians, determine what, and how, our teachers teach!

  • Healthcare - We must ensure that adequate and improved healthcare is available to all. This begins by expanding medicaid to tens of thousands of low income Georgians and securing the future of rural hospitals and clinics.

  • Casino Gambling - I will work diligently to legalize and regulate casino gambling. Casino tax money kept in the state, along with the spending of tourists, will provide hundreds of millions of dollars to our state tax base and create tens of thousands of well paying jobs for residents. I will work to secure these jobs for Coweta County. Please note that this tax is only paid by casino patrons and will help end the state income tax, lower property taxes, and provide funding for public education, improving infrastructure, and supporting better healthcare for all.

  • Legalizing Marijuana - Adult marijuana use should be allowed at the age of 21. Production and sale of marijuana products should be taxed and regulated to ensure the products are not adulterated, meet standards, and are safe for consumption. The money saved by law enforcement should be used to investigate white collar crimes. Criminal salesmen, illegal scams, and businesses prey on our citizens daily, especially the elderly and vulnerable with little to no concern of criminal prosecution. The taxes derived from marijuana would go to ending the state income tax, lowering property taxes, supporting public education, healthcare and infrastructure.
